Follow the broken bridge into the carriage
Stay on the main route through the Valley of Ashes and cross the broken bridge using the available platforms. PowerPyx places the gun on the left inside the train car during this section. Search the carriage interior before continuing; its position is a more useful landmark than a chapter-wide map coordinate.
Pick up the firearm before searching for side rewards
GamingProMax describes the same pickup as an ornate suspended carriage with the gun in a holder on the left. Interact with it to collect the pistol. The nearby officer and missing-scout investigation belong to An Unheard Farewell, but that quest rewards an Amber rather than granting the gun itself.
Use the pistol to open red weak spots
The firearm lets you destroy glowing red environmental weak spots that obstruct routes. It can also target enemy weak points in combat. If you remember a red obstruction from an earlier area, collecting the pistol gives you a reason to revisit it instead of searching for a missing key.
