Reaching the Caverns
You get into the Caverns with the Cave Grotto Key. After rescuing Louis, speak to James in the Abandoned Church; the key opens a door in the cliffs that you reach with the Grapple. This is required progress, so you cannot miss it.
Dropping to the Mining Shaft Key
Work through the minecart area to the elevator at its end, which leads back up to the Old Mine Lantern. Ride or descend the elevator and drop onto the ledge with a body roughly halfway along the shaft. The key is on that ledge, close to the Saltmine Note.
If you overshoot, return to the Lantern and try the drop again rather than jumping from the top.
What the key opens
Use it on the locked door beside the switch that redirected the minecart. Behind it is a breakable wall that connects to the elevator, giving you a shortcut. PowerPyx notes the same key opens the door leading to Ferrofluid Flask Power Upgrade number seven, so do not leave the area without it.
Other keys in Valor Mortis
MetaBot counts twenty-seven keys including the Silver Lockpick. Fifteen are simply lying in their region, eight are handed over in scenes and four drop from elite enemies, such as the Beekeeper’s Hut Key from an Eternal Guardsman and the Wagon Key from Volunteers. The Vale of Wrath has the most keys, with six, and the University follows with five.
